Hershey Kisses for Breakfast

Howdy! Let's get right to business. Do you ever get super frustrated after busting your ass and seeing that you've barely burned off that Hershey kiss(es) you enjoyed for breakfast?  So frustrating! Those are the times I have to push myself.

I'm not very good at pushing myself, as made obvious by my lack of keeping up with this blog. It's not because I'm a bad blogger, it's because I'm a bad dieter/exerciser. Nothing to post and update!

OR *Stop starting over!* Just kidding, LOVE this.
Yet tomorrow is a new day and I am excited to hop on that treadmill at the crack of dawn and persevere. I worked out to Dance Central tonight for about 35 minutes and the game said I had only burned 90 calories! WHAT! How is that possible? I can barely breathe!? I went online and looked up the calories burned in regards to my actual weight and I was satisfied with those results. I don't know what they base those calories on, but obviously not someone quite as fluffy as myself.

That pink blob in the upper right corner is me

I have to make my crazy eyes face or else my eyes disappear in my eye fat.
Fitness Tracker aka pick a playlist and we'll randomly tick away a calorie count low enough to make you want to macarena your way off a bridge.

In other news I have been smoke free for over a week now. It has been surprisingly easy! I really think I was just ready. Chris joined me in quitting a few days later and he's done really well. We even were at a bar this past Saturday and didn't even feel tempted. Even non-smokers will smoke when drinking! It's interesting, I feel like I don't miss any part of it. Not like I thought I would. I feel plugged in and connected! I don't feel different physically, but I wasn't that heavy of a smoker even though I had smoked for 10 years.

I also have cut down drastically on my pop (soda, if you are a weirdo) intake. I can't say I've given this up completely, because that would be a lie. It feels really good to be drinking so much water though. I think these small changes will add up to big differences in my life, I am hopeful!

Dieting & exercising are two words that go together like fedora and douchebag, but for whatever reason I can't seem to do them at the same time. I blame this on the fact that Tessa and organization are two words that do not go together. I need organization to create healthy, cheap meals that I can purchase one week at a time. That involves a lot of prep work and I'm a last minute kind of girl when it comes to food. That is next on my list! Create healthy meals and plan plan plan! OR- Find a blog where someone else has already done this and gone to the trouble of documenting the process for me! That should help. Have I mentioned that I love the internet?

Tonight, I'll leave you with this. It goes without saying but:

For realz.

 Night loves.

My thoughts on the Grammys: Not enough Beyonce. It was tragic. This sure did help ease the pain though:
Get that man some chapstick! Pronto!

I Go Back

Every story has a beginning so let's go back shall we? I don't know about you, but I love blogs. I read at least 5 daily and have about 50 bookmarked. What do I enjoy the most? Pictures! Maybe I'm nosy, or just visual. Either way, you can't really have a weight loss blog without some before pics, can you! And since I have no shame, you're in luck. I'm also pretty photogenic so that helps. I am going to post some pictures that I already have on my computer since so far I am having fun with this blog and want to keep it easy peasy.

Baby me. "Feed me!" I probably tried to shove that huge orange balloon (ball?) into my mouth and failed. I guess I'm pretty normal sized for a child. I wasn't a huge chunk or anything. I was born at 7 something pounds while both my sisters were born at 6 something. Nothing too crazy.

Baby me still, playing in a pot. Or a huge bucket. Who really knows?
Toddler me looking quite tan and blonde but average sized for a wee little one.

Child me. I'm guessing this is halloween and that I was a fancy bow-tied waitress with the ability to see the future with my crystal ball?

How cute was child me? I loved baby dolls. I mostly added this to show an example of my parents amazing photo taking skillz.

Another little pic of me around the same age. I'm the one with no pants, not the one wearing socks as pants. Parents, center! Life before digital cameras, yuck.

Stacy and me and a giant pumpkin, I don't think I'm vogueing here just trying to block the sun. At this point I definitely started to gain weight. No turning back!

Rock that Dino shirt! Leg up, total Tyra on our hands here! Also the first time I colored my hair, it matched the rim of this picture. Not a very flattering ensemble, but since I'm pretty sure I was pre-teen here that was okay. I'm still proud to say that was 1 of maybe 3 cartoon related items I owned. I don't know why Disney thinks all skinny-challenged people want to adorn Tweety Bird.

I think this was my first day of 8th grade? Maybe 9th. God my clothing were hideous. They did not have cute fat clothes for teenage girls of the 90s!

Despite my size, I rarely shied away from tap dancing my way across a stage in front of total strangers barely dressed. Except my sophomore year, I bowed out of the recital, I was self conscious and very much a shy teenage girl that year. I remember regretting not dancing with my class though, and despite feeling uncomfortable didn't miss another recital.

Senior year! So many failed diets and horrible outfits under my belt at this point. This homecoming dress was a last minute find online and I loved it.

Graduation night! Look how cute and excited this girl was to be getting out of high school! I love short hair, despite looking Jodie Fosterish to some, I love it and want it back!

The slide was broken I could not slide. But as they say...

Fake it till you make it!

1 year out of high school, headed back to pass on the crown. Of awesomeness.

Same year 2003, with my favorite shirt. "Famous". I don't remember where I got that shirt but I miss it. It made me feel so sassy! Work it sista!

Fast forward to today. Today as in a few months ago since I'm currently back to boring lame person hair again.

So there's my life and weight in pictures. When I say I've always been overweight, it's not just something I say. It's true. I have no idea what it feels like to be thin. I honestly can't remember ever wearing a size in single digits. That's okay, you can't miss something you never had! For health reason though, this goal of mine is an important one.

I hope you had fun traveling down memory lane with me!

Peace out homies,
T

Booty Down to Drop the Pounds!

Shake it uh huh shake it like a Polaroid picture! This is an honest to God recreation of my glorious dance moves, I'll let Beyonce show you because for reals, I don't think you're ready for this jelly.

At least it is an honest to God recreation of how I think I look when I'm dancing in my basement during Dance Central, the camera on that thing tells a different story. In reality I look like this:

Tiny Fey is making me look GOOD! I honestly do think I can move and I'm a decent dancer but there is just WAY too much jiggle in my wiggle.

Dancing is one of my favorite things to do honestly and I cannot wait to lose weight and be able to have the confidence to get out there and bless you all with my moves.

You're welcome.

In other news- I did not wake up early again this morning. I blame this on the fact that for some reason this little bit of working out I'm doing in the morning carries on all day and I have so much energy I can't even sleep that night! And my husband woke me up at 4:30 AM to tell me he was having spaghetti.

Seriously long story. Well not really a long story, but an uninteresting one. This is where the dancing comes in. I came home from work, made some delish taco sorta meal and played Dance Central 3 with Chris on the kinect for about an hour. Amazeballs. Loved it! Heads up, you do not want to battle this chica on any 70's music. I can jive like nobodies business. The 80's on the other hand? Not my forte. I couldn't even do the dance to the Right Stuff. NKOTB! I'll be ready for you again if you ever whip out a Nsync tune though, so beware.

Seriously, lights out for this dancing queen.

Peace Homies,
T

Motivation

Hello party people! I absolutely did not want to get out of bed this morning. Especially not at 6:30 AM when my alarm started buzzing. I've been working on changing my sleep patterns so that I can drag my ass out of bed now that I've adjusted going to bed before 1:00 AM or whatever ridiculous time my body decided it was beyond exhausted. I'm on day 2 of early rising and not so shabby. This morning though, ugh. Probably because I didn't sleep well. It was a light-toss and turning kind of night. I've been super hot at night which I think is from puppy body heat. Because I'm ridiculous, I'd rather sleep with no blanket than no puppy, but it evens out. Freezing legs, burning lava hot torso.

Do you want to know what finally made me wake up and throw my logs (or legs) onto that floor and make myself get up?

Yes. B E Y O N C E. I honestly woke up and thought, "What would Beyonce do?" Doesn't everyone ask themselves that in tough situations? No? Liars! Seriously though, her Superbowl performance spoke to me! She is who she is. She's a bad ass. She gets up and shake it, no apologies! Not that she has anything to apologize for. She's beautiful and strong and confident. Imagine if you woke up everyday and gave the world 10% of that performance. Anyways- thinking about what Beyonce would do motivated me to get off my lazy ass. Beyonce would not be Beyonce if she slept in for an extra hour everyday just because. I should say Sasha Fierce, because that's who performed at the Superbowl but you get the drift.

I mean imagine, everyday, even just 10% of this:

(BTW, this is supposedly from her 'nip slip' I see nothing, people are such haters.)

So I will continue to wake up early and walk on that treadmill for however far my little short hobbit legs can carry me and dream of one day being as bad ass as Beyonce, Sasha Fierce, Ms. Carter if your nasty!

Peace & Love,
T

Quittin' You

To do a 5K, I think it would be pretty crucial to have fully functioning lungs. That is one reason why I've decided to quit smoking. I've don't believe I have ever been fully addicted to smoking. Mentally? that's possible, but not physically. I just liked it.

I started smoking close to 10 years ago when I moved to Columbus for the first time. I had smoked a handful of times before that but I specifically remember not even doing it right. I didn't inhale (not to sound like Bill Clinton) but I just kinda puffed. My mom smoked for most of my childhood and my dad still does to this day. I also remember begging them to quit because they were going to die! Didn't they love us?! Kids are so dramatic. I blame DARE. I was....judgmental? That's not the best word to describe me, but the only one I can think of. I couldn't believe people smoked cigarettes (let alone anything else) or drank alcohol to get drunk! Ridiculous. I was naive. Maybe that's a better word.

Then I moved to the big city and life changed quickly! My roommate  smoked like a chimney so I just kind of followed suite. My boyfriend at the time and all my new friends smoked too, so it's not surprising I ever picked up the nasty habit. One person who didn't was our friend and my now hubalub Chris and a small handful of childhood friends we rarely saw. Fast forward to today and Chris isn't quite ready to quit just yet. It's okay, I know he will because he's competitive.

I'm glad to be free. I really hope if you're reading this, you find your reasons for quitting. I hate feeling like something owns me. My weight owns me right now. I don't choose what to wear, my body and weight dictate that. If I chose I would dress much cuter, I promise. Cigarettes have owned me. I do what they want, when they want. How shitty is that. Now I do what I want, in terms of my lungs. You don't own me Camel! Suck it.

Maybe I'll become a soprano again? The possibilities are endless!

Dirty Girl Run

Here goes nothing! On June 1st 2013, I am participating in my first 5k. Yup. 3.something miles (the 3 and miles are the important part) not just me of course. My momma and two sisters and one sister-in-law will also be joining in (No boys allowed). The Dirty Girl Run is a great jumping off point!

First- it's not timed so it's not competitive. That's amazeballs because I would come in last, dead last.

Second- There is more to it than running. There are a bunch of obstacles too! I love to get dirty.

Third- Supposedly there will be music AND booze. Yup yup, I'll take it!

Today I did my first bit of training since I purchased my new tennis shoes. I walked on the treadmill for 1 mile. It took about 25 minutes and I couldn't feel my legs. I am so out of shape it is just....ugh. I am in a shape, the shape of someone who swallowed a beach ball! But not the kind of shape I need to be in. Come hell or high water (what does that even mean?) I will be there on June 1st and it will NOT be pretty.

Go to www.godirtygirl.com to sign up today and join in!

In 2012, it is the goal of Dirty Girl to provide the National Breast Cancer Foundation with over $250,000 in monetary and in-kind support. In 2013, our goal is to deliver over $1,500,000 in support to NBCF. In addition, Dirty Girl will continue providing cancer survivors free registration at each event. -From the website directly.
